Tobacco raw matter

Post-harvesting treatments of tobaccos start with leaf curing (flue-cured = warm air, air-cured = natural air), up to storage for conservation. Work undertaken at the Tobacco Institute aims at improving aromatic potential of raw tobacco, while reducing TSNA (Tobacco Specific Nitrosamines) formation in leaves, then in cigarette smoke.

From this point of view, monitoring of parameters such as hygroscopy and temperature is particularly crucial during curing.

New raw matters are also elaborated from specific tobacco varieties and agriculture techniques in order to develop innovating tobaccos in accordance with consumer wishes.
